The Cleveland Massacre occurred during February - April of 1872. Standard Oil Company purchased all other competing oil refineries Cleveland, Ohio in order to eliminate competition. They ended up acquiring 22 out of 26 competing refineries at a discount rate, thus nearly monopolizing the oil industry in favor of Standard Oil.
