What was the Anaconda Plan? Why was it important and what did it do?

    The Anaconda Plan was used by the Union during the US Civil War as a means to choke the Confederacy of supplies. It involved blockading all Confederate controlled ports and putting soldiers around the borders of southeastern Confederate States.
