Why did the French people have such negative feelings towards Marie Antoinette? Were they justified?

They thought that they heard her say that peasants should eat cake if they didnt have bread

Marie Antoinette spent French money on extravagant clothing and jewels, while the people starved. due to her action people got angry and it cannot be justified at any cost. while the people of France depended on only bread for their food, she had spent the people money for luxury and unnecessary ornaments. how can she justify her action?. as people are starving, ideas of writing and enlightenment and lack of money led to french revolution.
