Jim Thorpe is well-known for football. As a child, he was sent to Carlisle Indian School. Why was he sent here?

    As a child he was sent to Haskell Institute (a boarding school) because he kept running away. When he was 16 he returned to his father, and he decided to go to Carlisle Indian School, and that's where his football talent became noticed.
