Decribe imperialism in Africa, motives, effects and repercussions.

    The motives were to "civilize" the people there by making them Christian and educating them, extract natural resources, and win glory and fame. The effects were the suffering of native populations (especially in the Belgian Congo), the speaking of European languages in swaths of Africa, the introduction of liberal democracy and free market capitalism to much of Africa, and the loss of some old culture, as well as the drawing of African borders by European nations. The repercussions were civil wars and revolutions, as seen in Algeria, Kenya, etc., as well as deep-seated racism, such as South African Apartheid. Many African nations are still dealing with challenges brought on by imperialism
