Operation Vittles - American airlift operating during the blockade of Berlin from 26 June 1948 to 30 September 1949; It is at the same time the British airlift operation was called Plainfare. As part of Operation Vittles 189 963 flights was made, while transporting 1 783 573 tons of supplies. The operation was attended by about 75,000 civilians and soldiers. 31 airmen were killed during operation, and the cost of American operations amounted to over $ 137 million (approx. $ 1.49 billion in 2015).
