Do you think Southerners were justified in seceding despite Lincoln's assurances? Explain.

    No. The Confederates committed treason when they revolted against the Union. The Southern leaders did not have the legal authority or legal justification to 'secede' from the Union. Once admitted to the Union they were without power to unilaterally secede.
