The Fort Laramie Treaty reserved land in the Black Hills of the Dakotas for the Indians under the agreement to not harass or threaten western settlers.

The treaty was signed on September 17th 1851. The treaty was created to give back traditional territorial claims of the tribes as among themselves, including the Black Hills.
