Grandson of 6th earl of marton. Lord high treasurer of scotland, and zealous royalist, who, on outbreak of great rebellion in 1642, provided $100,000 for the cause by selling his Dalkeith estates to the earl of buccleich. He expanded his other seat, aberdor castle in five, with renaissance style east wing. He married Lady anne keith in 28, march, 1604. they had ten children.
