The Columbian exchange between the old and new worlds affected both societies because the old world was filled with new supplies and goods from the new world that had just been discovered; such as turkeys, avocados, and vanilla. The new world traded those supplies and goods for the things they needed from the old world, and Native Americans were introduced to many new goods such as cattle, coffee, and sugar. While those are all positive effects, there were negatives as well; such as the spread of diseases. Many Native Americans died because their immune systems were not prepared for the attack of illnesses such as cholera, influenza, and malaria that were unknowingly traded along with the goods.
