What are the powers exercised by the state

    The state can elect officials to represent its interests in the federal government. The state can tax it's citizens and have a state armed force known as a militia. Also, the state can make and enforce its own set of laws with police, courts and prisons. The state has control over the public school systems within it territory as well.
