Why might Latin Americans be concerned about the Monroe doctrine

It could be argued that many Latin Americans would be concerned about the Monroe doctrine because it was a show of force by the Americans that the US was the dominant power in all the Americas--implying that the US had economic and military control over many Latin American countries.
