Most people think it was Barack Obama is the first black President of the United States. John Hanson was actually the 1st black President of the United States, he served from 1781 - 1782.

During November 1781, John Hanson became the first President of the United States in Congress Assembled under the Articles of Confederation. Some have even argued that John Hanson, and not George Washington, was the first President of the United States.

John Hanson got elected in 1781, while George Washington was elected in 1789, 8 years after John Hanson.
