Explain how democrats and whigs viewed liberty and the role of government in securing liberty.

    The democrats and the whigs believed that the Government should be involved in all aspects of people live in order to achieve freedom (such as regulating a lot of social problems and regulating corporations).

    One could argue that this will give too much power to the government and diminish the citizens' true freedom
