The primary cause of Soviet inefficiency is economic and political which resulted in a culture war. The Soviet Union lost arms race and the international competition which they had with the West. The US was able to get profit from other countries' Imperial exploitation.

Soviet consumers imported for themselves to satisfy their needs which led to collapse or ruble. Economic factors were linked with psychological and political factors. Policy failures for example war in Afghanistan and explosion of Chernobyl atomic power plant resulted in deep gloom.

Lack of honest information also led to the inefficiency of Soviet state farms.

Distortion and secrecy have political factors as well as disastrous economic.
