During this time there were many immigrants moving to the US in search of a better life. So, with more people came the growth of cities. Also, the industrial revolution happened right before this time. With the industrial revolution there were more jobs in cities because factories were being built, and those jobs were incentives for people who lived in rural areas to move to cities.
