What were Locke's three primary reasons for keeping government and religion separate

    The first premise is the innate concerns of people are separate from the state and is the role of religion. The second premise, the state cannot direct people to their personal and religious understandings. The third premise, the study of religion and the path to get to heaven is separate from the role of the state.
