    Mexico, under the terms of the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, agreed to the terms laid out and relinquished all of their claims to the areas, (including portions of or all of what we now know as Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah as well as Wyoming), that lie above the Rio Grande.
