    A) Antietam.

    This battle was not only know for being the the bloodiest, but also it was the war to end slavery. The Emancipation Proclamation was issued only 5 days after that battle. Lincoln needed that Union battle so the proclamation could be issued.

    Why is it A) ? because the Battle of Antietam took place in Sharpsburg, Maryland. The Confederate foray into Union territory proved roundly unsuccessful, though both sides lost tens of thousands of troops in a matter of just hours.
