The British, or English. The stone was discovered in 1799 by the French and was captured by British troops and sent back to the British Museum London, England in 1802. In order to protect the incredible impressive, black monolith, the stone was kept underground during World War I, otherwise it has been on display at the museum for the majority of the time there.
