Who was the first democratic nominee for president in 1860 that was nominated by the delegates who broke away from the union?

    The correct answer should be John C. Breckinridge. He was nominated by the Southern Democrats who split off while the regular democrats nominated Stephen A. Douglas. They were both defeated by the republican candidate Abraham Lincoln who did it easily having many electoral votes.
