    Sensationalist newspapermen wrote stories to make Spain's problems in Cuba sound much worse than they were. The term Yellow Journalism was first used to describe this story tellers. The US Maine caught fire in Havana harbor. These newspapers made it sound like the Spanish had fired on it. In fact the fire started on board the Maine.
