What two city-states joined force in 480 BC when the Persian king Xerxes decided to attack?

    Sparta and Athens, which is very significant because before they had absolutely despised each other. But when they were attacked at Thermopylae, they rallied there forces together: Sparta with it's military prowess and Athens with it's intellectual and tactical integrity.
