How has the Gila Monster adapted to the breeding patterns of its prey the Gambel quail and desert cottontail rabbits?

The Gila only consumes five to ten times within a year when they are in the wild. This way their preys have ample time to reproduce and be abundant for the monster's hunting season. These animals have a strong sense of smell which enable them to smell eggs that are deeply buried underground. They can eat about 1/3 of their total body mass.
