In 1600, which european nation seemed to have the best chance at eventually controlling what is now the united states? why?

    Spain seemed to be the most likely to take total control of the land where the new colonies were to form. They had the strongest armed forces, had the most money, and were some of the best at going to new lands and conquering the indigenous peoples who were already living there, as noted by their conquests in Mexico in the previous years.
