Thomas Pain wrote a pamphlet in 1775-1776 called Common Sense. It was a persuasive piece designed to encourage people that declaring independence from Great Britain was good for everyone. It was very effective seeing as soon after it was released, America had declared its independence, which would soon start the Revolutionary War.
