What was the result of the US Senates refusal to approve the Treaty of Versailles?

It meant that the league of nations was ineffective and therefore a failure and at a lesser extent resulted in the start of ww2 for if the isa had signed it then they may have done something leading up to ww2 when hitler was taking liberties and may not have allowed it to progress as far as it did
