How did the northwest ordinance of 1787 affect the expansion of slavery?

    Slavery was forbidden in the Northwest Territory. Slavery and involuntary servitude were also forbidden in the Northwest Territory. Ohio River was made a natural dividing line the land of the free slaves and the slave states of the country. A unanimous consent from the states was made to protect the slaves from being the victims of slavery.
