What is due process? what might happen if the constitution did not guarantee this right?

Due process is the process through the court system in judicial branch that all american citizens have the right for trial in court and if this didn't happen a lot of innocent people would be in jail/prison because they did not have a fair trial, it would be unconstitutional to not give a citizen the right of due process.
