For many black feminist, Freidan’s book ignored thousands of working women and instead suggested that all women experience oppression in the same way. In 1960’s the difference between white middle class and black women’s oppression could not have been more noticeable. A life of happy homemaking for white suburban women which recommended by experts, as documented in Freidan’s book reprimanded that black women for their failure to adapt to this model. The reason behind this is because black mothers by tradition worked outside the home in much larger numbers than white counterparts in such they are blamed for a range of social ills on basis of their relative economic independence.
