    The Wilmot Proviso proposed an American law to boycott servitude in any domain obtained from Mexico in the Mexican War. The contention over the Wilmot stipulation was one of the significant occasions prompting the American Civil War. He passed the House, however, flopped in the Senate, where the South had more prominent portrayal. It was reintroduced in February 1847 and again passed the House and bombed in the Senate. In 1848, an endeavor to make it a player in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo likewise fizzled.
