The Jim Crow laws basically separated the South from public facilities to public entertainment like theaters and dining areas. Whites were allowed to eat at certain restaurants, bathrooms and were also allowed specific seats on the public buses. They actually reserved the best for the whites. The majority of the blacks had to enter the bus through the back door. If a "colored" person were to be seen at one of these segregated diners they would get horribly beaten and food thrown all over them, treated like they were not a part of the human race.
