What was the main reason the Soviets chose Cuba for the placement of the missiles?

The main reason for the missile placement is to Balance the missile placement that the united states put in Turkey.

The distance between turkey and uni soviet is almost similar to the distance between United States and Cuba. Sovier choose it so they wouldn't have millitary disadvantages in case one of us choose to nuke the other.
