What factors led to the discrimination against irish immigrants in the early and middle 1800s

The fact that they were catholic which many Americans were not was one reason why and their religion was insulted a lot. Also after the Irish potato famine many Irish people had no homes and came completely broke and poorly dressed another reason why they were mad fun of a lot in the streets. Many were also looking for jobs to make money and send home to their families, however many Americans disliked Irish people taking up their jobs once again bullying them. These are some of the factors that led to Irish discrimination in the middle 1800's when they came to America.
