    He borrowed the idea of three branches of government from the Roman Republic and passed it along to American revolutionaries is how did the ideas of Montesquieu connect the ancient world with the New World, but the answer is pretty simplification of whole matter due to fact that there was no exact three branches of goverment in the Roman republic but had separate of powers
