    The core american political ideology of the postwar period considered the success of the new republican governments to be dependent on independent landowners. In addition to history, for most revolutionary american political thinkers the idea of equality meant there should be equality of opportunity and under the articles of confederation, the national government had the power to borrow and issue money.
