How did Chiang Kai-shek's fear of communism cause him to alienate many Chinese intellectuals and political moderates?

    He stopped trusting them and started becoming more and more radical in resolving the issue of communism which completely polarized the people of china. Moderate people stopped supporting him and went to the communists, while intellectuals noticed that his behavior was wrong and that got them to join the communists.
