Why was Harlem called the unofficial capital of Black Americans

    African American writers, musicians, singers, painters, sculptors and scholars lived there and exchanged ideas. African Americans were able to live freely and express their ideas without being oppressed. The entire town's population at the time was mainly African Americans.
