Chattel slavery and indentured servitude are very different for several reasons. In terms of the amount of time served, people who are slaves do not have a time limit on how long they work. They are considered property and are owned for however long the owner sees fit. However, in indentured servitude, these individuals usually work for a specific period of time (usually 5-7 years).

Another big difference is the fact the indentured servants usually received land after their years of service were up. This was the case in the United States during the 17th century.
