Intervening in Mexico's affairs after the Mexican Revolution. The United States gained in interest in spreading democracy to Latin America at the turn of the 20th century. However, Mexico proved to be an interesting case because it had previously broke out in a democratic revolution which was suppressed by the brutal conservative General Huerta. Wilson was calling the Mexican government a government of butchers in order to justify his blockade of the Mexican fleet and ultimately the steps that took him closer to war in Mexico.
