What were the direct causes of the American revolution?

    The direct causes of the American revolution were taxation without representation in Parliament, and the fact that the British finally opened fire on the colonists during the Boston Massacre. Before this, there had been strong tensions forming--almost all of which had to do with unfair taxation.
