What impact did added capitalism and mercantilism have upon Europe?

    Capitalism and mercantilism during the colonial and imperial eras of Europe allowed Europe to achieve prosperity on a global level, while also inducing poverty and strict regulation on those whom the Europeans dominated.

    An example is the Spanish Empire, who drove almost all of their colonies to poverty by looking at the colonies as little more than silver mines.
