Where does jefferson say that a country gets its power?

    From the people.

    The people are the power behind a republic. Jefferson believed in the ideas of John Locke who believed people had the right to overthrow corrupt governments. This belief is why Jefferson supported revolution and why he would support states' rights during the writing of the Constitution.
