Seminole means "wild men", who are one of the five civilized tribes in Florida, which used to be a Spanish territory. They call themselves "Unconquered People" who are the descendants of 300 Indians who manged to elude the capture by the US Army in the 19th century.

These Seminoles became a problem for the United States that in 1834, by virtue of the Treaty of Payne's Landing, they were ordered to relocate to Indian Territory.

However, five important chiefs of the tribe resisted the order. A young warrior named Osceola, led the First Seminole War from 1835 to 1842with 300 to 500 insurgents and managed to hold off a sizeable fraction of the US Army.
