    During the Soviet-Afghan War the Soviet army and the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan fought against an insurgent group called the Mujahideen. The Soviet-Afghan War began in December 1979 and didn't end until February 1989. The war began as a struggle between Pakistan and Afghanistan and escalated to include Russia and the United States.
