How can freedom of the press promote economic growth?

Corruption and improper actions can be found and rooted out, leading to more ethical business practices and growth by the businesses who do follow the rules. Those companies who do take a tack that is against the consumers' interests will be exposed and driven out of the marketplace, leading to fewer businesses willing to take such risks.
