It is often stated that the civilization gave rise to the religion, but according to national geographic, it is the opposite. They stated that the religion is the one that gave birth to the civilization.

One great example for this is the famous and mysterious Stonehenge. It is believed that Stonehenge was not built for any civilization, but it was for a religious purpose, the same goes to the Mayan empire which most of the teachings are still being used today as basics just like the making of calendar.

Gobekli Tepe is the same as Stonehenge but was built earlier, and it is the oldest known monumental architecture. It also has the oldest known temple, which suggests that it was the religion that gave birth to civilization.
