1. A demand for basic human rights stems from the Enlightenment period beginning in Europe in the 17th century. This ideology would eventually spur the American, French, Haitian, and Latin American Revolutions. In Europe it resulted in nationalist movements aimed at unifying countries and creating more democratic governments. The demand for this change occurred in Russia leading up to 1905 with riots, strikes, and revolts through the country demanding the creation of a Constitutional Monarchy. The "Revolution of 1905" led to Nicholas II allowing for a parliament to be created in Russia as to provide a representative body and voice for the people of Russia.

2. The policy of "Russification" is an assimilation policy stemming off of nationalistic ideology. The goal of the policy was to assimilate immigrants and non-Russian ethnicity into Russian society as to unify the Russian people as one people. This ideology was common during the Industrial Revolution and imperialistic age of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
