How many principal routes did the cherokee take to indian territory?

    Three. From the port on the Tennessee River, groups of Cherokee would leave by steamship to the Mississippi River, then south on the Mississippi to the Arkansas River. They followed the river to Fort Smith, on the border between Arkansas & Indian Territory.
