Medical records are said to contain information that are said to be highly sensitive and private. Since these records are said to contain private information, permission must be gotten from patient before the information can be shared by a doctor. This is found in a set of medical rules known as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). There could also be circumstances in which the doctor can share the record without the patient's permission.
